How to use a web host to build a site?

Where did you buy it from?

Are you useing cPanel?

Email me at youngbizman16@yahoo.com and I%26#039;ll help you.

Other Replys:Once you have a domain name, I assume you also have a host? Two separate things, ya know. You should have an FTP address, userid, and password. Got those? Get%26#039;em!

Once you have those, got your .html or .htm files ready? Get%26#039;em.

The main one%26#039;s your index.htm. Some hosts (like Yahoo!) need the extension to be .html. Other hosts don%26#039;t mind if it%26#039;s .htm. Find out. Name accordingly. %26quot;index.htm%26quot; is the home page where your website calls arrive, but you already knew that, right?

Next, get an FTP program. Get ws_ftp or Filezilla or get Firefox and install its add-on named FireFTP. Open it up (whichever one or two or all three) you got and %26quot;set up an account%26quot; specifying a name for the account (any ol%26#039; name will do, like %26quot;Herbert Hoover%26quot;) and the host address (that%26#039;s the FTP address mentioned earlier and the userid and password. Check %26quot;remember password%26quot; to save yourself some grief and retyping later. Click Connect. Select Your folder and the host%26#039;s folder (actually, the host%26#039;s folder is already over there...) See, you%26#039;ve got a divided window in view, with a view of your folder in one and the host%26#039;s mostly empty, for now, folder, in the other. Select files in your folder, and there%26#039;s likely an arrow, click it, and copies of files will be transferred to the host.

Dah you go. When you%26#039;re happy, Disconnect. Exit

Other Replys:If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a %26quot;homepage%26quot; which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage.

Nevertheless, the %26quot;homepage%26quot; URL is likely to be %26quot;http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscribe... name%26quot; and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., %26quot;mydomain.com%26quot; which allows you to link any registered domain name to %26quot;mask%26quot; another website. For example, should you type in the %26quot;domain name,%26quot; you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... a homepage URL which will be masked by the domain name. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE.

Here%26#039;s a demonstration: Type in the URL window: %26quot;www.pizzanextdoor.com%26quot; which will bring up their pizza website. Take note of the domain name. Then type in the URL window: %26quot;http://home.pacbell.net/vten/1a/pizzame... and you will see that this is the original homepage which is unmasked without the domain name.

Good luck!

Other Replys:There are two principal steps to make your website on the internet and registering/booking a domain name is the number one.

A domain name builds the address of your site and can end in . com, . net, . org, . info, . us, . biz, . tv and further.

Directly afer you have registered your name, you will pick a web host (2nd step). The web host is the guts of any website as this is where you build and publish your pages, build purchase fillings, insert service and preserve your site.

How to Select the Best Domain Name

If being in the foremost search engines (Yahoo!, MSN, etc. ) is tremendously essential to you, I extremely urge you index a name that includes your major keywords as an alternative of your enterprise name.

Imagine about it. The normal visitor searches by theme, not by correct name. So why it may seem cool to have a name corresponding Jack%26#039;sLinux. com, you%26#039;ll wish to select a name that contains keywords that your intended spectators would likely use when they search.

So with that in thinking, a name like Begin-using-Linux. com would be much enhanced than Jack%26#039;sLinux. com. Sure, you can still list your corporation name on your web pages, but I think it%26#039;s more important to make sure the domain name consist of your eminent %26quot;search friendly%26quot; keywords if you want to receive traffic from all over.

No doubt, you can still register your firm name on the web site some area, but your domain name will consist of all the significant keywords you%26#039;ll want to be found with.

Is there any way to host your own web site ?

Nope, cant be done. Millions have tried and failed.

Is there any way to host your own web site ?

Yes, just set up a computer as a web server and load your page on it. Then sign up for a domain name and point it to your IP address.

Is there any way to host your own web site ?

I think for that you need a computer connected to the internet 24/7 and a permanent IP address from your ISP

Other Replys:Yeah you can, I know plenty of people that do it. There is actually a guy that runs a dating site on his own servers and it has about 500,000 visitors a month. Depending on the application, I would not use just a computer. They do not have the security measures that real servers have. You can get a server from dell and they will teach you how to work it. If you only plan on having a few people on the site with no databases or information being transmitted, then a computer with a dedicated IP will work ok. Good luck!

Other Replys:Yes, but unless you know what you%26#039;re doing, it%26#039;s often a bad idea.

The bare bones of it is: You set up a computer as a server, get a permanent IP address from your ISP (often costs more), get a domain name for your website (you have to get that anyhow), and then add content and maintain the computer.

The problem is, if you don%26#039;t know computer security well, there are a host of things that could go wrong. The vast majority of spam comes from improperly set up Windows servers that have been hacked into by automatic processes. Don%26#039;t add more to that, please. Securing your own server is a lot of work to learn, and can be a big pain in the butt if you get it wrong. There have been reports of people getting jailed for having child porn on their servers that they didn%26#039;t know about, because they didn%26#039;t know how to secure their servers.

So...is all that hassle really worth $50/year? It is if you%26#039;re interested in learning about technology and security, but if you%26#039;re just trying to save money, it%26#039;s probably a bad idea.

Other Replys:You can do it, but why? Hosting services have gotten so cheap that its not worth it. Here is a guide to getting started: http://www.richkahmer.com/build-a-websit...

I recently purchased hosting for my web page on Yahoo, but my site doesn't ever come up in a we

This can take some time. But to help do some research on how to add META tags to your page. This speeds things up.

I recently purchased hosting for my web page on Yahoo, but my site doesn%26#039;t ever come up in a web search?

You will have to submit the webpage to the engines, or at least get links to it from other sites so the search engines can find it. You can start by linking your site in your Answers profile, on your 360 page if you have one, or anywhere else that you know of. They Yahoo! Directory and DMOZ are also good places to list your site.

How do I buy a Web site?

I work for a local research university in the sociology dept. I want to start a web site for my organization so I bought the domain from godaddy.com, but they want to ad advertising and all the junk to the site. How do I take the name and host the site on the university%26#039;s servers without anymore interference from godaddy?

How do I buy a Web site?

You can try a DNS fowarding service. It will register your url to their server and foward everything to yours....you could run a website in your house if you so desired.

How do I buy a Web site?

Go to phpwebhosting.com and take a look. They have tutorials/instructions on how to setup hosting [1]. They are not the only web hosting provider, but they are a cheap and reliable option. My site, astrogibs.com, is hosted there. I too registered my domain name through GoDaddy.

GoDaddy.com is a domain registrar [2] primarily. What you need now is web site hosting [3]. A useful metaphor for this would be to think of the domain registrar as the post office, and the web host as a landlord. The post office knows where you live, and how to get things to you. But you don%26#039;t live inside your address; Your address is just a pointer to your domicile, where you live. So, you need both a domain registrar AND a web hosting provider.

I%26#039;m surprised that your university doesn%26#039;t have hosting for faculty.

Other Replys:Once you own a domain name, you can take it with you to anywhere else you want. When you find a new host, just let them know the name and they will be able to move it for you. (There may be a small fee for doing it, but not always).

Other Replys:just apply at geocities.com and there u can transfer ur page from godaddy. to the new host.

Other Replys:Tell them to take a hike! You dont need a domain name in the first place. All you need is webspace which your isp probably already provides in your account. All you need next is to build a site. Depending on how elaborate you want it, you may find web authoring tools in your account also. If you decide you want a domain name try yahoo. They sell them for 3 dollars a year now. The domain name simply redirects searchers to your actual web site addy which will be provided by your isp or wherever your storage is. If only people in your org are going to use it all they need is the addy.

Other Replys:I%26#039;d go with Midphase

http://www.daylon.com/midphase/

they will give you a free domain for the life of the account and handle the transfer from Godaddy.

Aside from that they%26#039;re the best host I%26#039;ve ever seen.

good luck.

Web Cam Hosting?

I have a web cam and so does my mom who lives in another state. We used to use AIM Triton (Instant Messaging) to be able to talk and see one another but their site has changed and don%26#039;t work very well. Does anyone know of another site that we can use for free to web cam eachother?

Web Cam Hosting?

Yes, as it%26#039;s said above, you should download msn or you also have yahoo messenger that will allow you to do so.

Additional option: skype, with this one you can also make phone calls with your pc to a normal phone paying very cheap prices (from pc to pc is free just like msn and yahoo messenger, and of course you can use your cam for free).

good luck

Web Cam Hosting?

just download msn, its free and supports both webcam but also skype type phone calls so you can call and see her for free.

What do I have to do to host my own web site?

You can use any old (or new) PC and load linux. Install and configure Apache server. Copy your website to this computer and obtain a public IP address from your ISP. You don%26#039;t need any expensive servers unless you will expect tons of traffic (in that case you will also need a better connection to your ISP).

What do I have to do to host my own web site?

If you want to host your own web site you would need a server, a very expensive peice of equipment. If you just want your own .com adress many web hosters have it for a fee, such as geocities.com or freewbes.com

Both also have free versions where your web site it like geocities/uername/filename

What do I have to do to host my own web site?

You can start out with a free board, to see if you like it

http://proboards.com

^good beginner boards, support staff improving

http://invisionfree.com

^good fully custimizable boards, good support

if you want a site to go with it:

^nice pages

http://bravehost.com

^good for alot of things, their forums kind of suck though

Other Replys:You can get free hosting at DotEasy.

http://www.doteasy.com/

All you pay for is the domain cost.

I believe they also include a website builder?

It%26#039;s a heck of a deal. No ads. etc.

Other Replys:You are asking to host your own website. That%26#039;s not having a %26quot;free%26quot; site or any other %26quot;paid%26quot; company host it. You will need a server. I would recommend running Windows Server 2003 Small Business Edition. I would recommend a %26quot;starter%26quot; server like the one listed in the link below. Prices start at around $500, but you can find a deal on a lesser, used server on Ebay. You don%26#039;t need much unless your website is very successful, getting thousands of hits a day. Once you%26#039;ve gotten one, you%26#039;ll need to install IIS (Internet Information Services) which is the program that runs in the background that allows folks to access your website. It comes with Windows server OS%26#039;es so there%26#039;s no extra charge. You will need a broadband connection such as DSL or a cable modem with a static (non-changing) IP address. You will need to either host your own DNS (same server, different service, also free) or pay a yearly fee for DNS hosting. If you choose to host DNS, you will need to forward port 53 and port 80 to on your router to the new server. Of course, you will also need to register your domain name with a domain registrar like godaddy.com or networsolutions.com. When you set that up, you will need your static IP address to assign the name servers for that domain (NS1 and NS2). You will need to add the appropriate records to your DNS server as well. Once this is done, simply place your website (already created, I hope!) in the root folder for IIS (usually C:\inetserv\wwwroot) Make your default page either index.htm or index.html or default.htm (html) or if using active server pages .asp or aspx.

That%26#039;s it! It%26#039;s not an easy task for a novice, but I hope this helps!
