Web based terminal client?

So I%26#039;m running an Ubuntu 7.10 LAMP stack with postgres as a web based application server and standard site host my school system. I have all of the internal network including the LAMP behind an IpCop firewall. I have my firewall configured to forward standard http requests on 80 to the LAMP. That%26#039;s all working fine. I can also putty in to the same machine on 21. I can then use lynx from the terminal and get to internal functions like the firewall and our pile of NASC devices. All fine and good if you want to []///////%26gt; around with putty in one window and firefox in another and whatever else needs to happen in a third.

What I would like to do make a splash page in the /var/www/whatever directory that allows be to open web based utilities that live on the far side of the firewall. Is this possible? Is there such thing as a web-based terminal client, like putty only operable within a browser? Any other way to do this? I have physical access to all the machines.

Not sure exactly what you mean to accomplish, I run several linux servers and connect putty , keep a window open for the browser and use everything I need from one machine without any issues. What exactly are you attempting to do? if you want to easily add users, web pages, files etc to the server just add a control panel for web hosting like, web-cp http://www.web-cp.net/

Im looking for a way to test my CGI scripts. I would like to do so without spending any money.

Essentially, I need a free web host, that also allows CGI scripts(without upgrading to premium) and also a free domain name. A site like freewebs is just fine, except that it didn%26#039;t do the cgi script without the premium option.

Either this, or is there another way to test cgi files possibly locally...?

hi, i%26#039;m not aware of any free hosts that provide cgi, however if you don%26#039;t find one you can go for your own test environment which may give you more understanding of what goes on behind the scenes when you are coding: apache for windows, perl/php and mysql
