i want to build a website and i want to know what do i need b/c i just bought a book on HTML. i need a server and a web hosting site. is that all i need? do i need to know more than HTML? Please help. and some website building tutorials would be nice also.

Other Replys:You need a web hosting site and you will probably want to register a domain name (www.register.com for example). After you have those two things, you can code in html, upload the document (use index.htm for the home page) and you are up and running.
Many people like to use a program to help them build web sites. Dreamweaver and Frontpage are both popular. You can download trials to see if you like them.

What you will need, is a domain name which you can pay for to get your own www.yourname.extension or get free sites from other companies though you most likely wont get to choose the full url.
Then you need your hosting. An inexpensive host is http://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?240082 they support php 4/5, mysql 5.1, plus have one click installs for a load of items. If you need a site thats more then html this is the way for you to go.
To determine if you need more the html think what your site is about and how you want it to work. If you want an interactive site where people can communcate by commenting, voting, uploading etc, then you are going to need more then just html.
If this is the case besides the html book your best bet is using the php and mysql. Php is the most forgiving web programming language with a ton of avialable tutorials and scripts. A good book for php is from larry ullman.
If you want anyone to log into your site or have alot of user provided information you should learn a structured query language as well (SQL). Again mysql is free, their website, mysql.com has good documentation and there are alot of available info for this on the web. Larry ullman also makes a mysql book that is good, plus he makes a php %26amp; mysql book together so that might be your best bet. Just get it off amazon used.
Some other tools you can get that will make it easier for you to build a site is an ftp client, coffeecup makes a free version. An IDE, for html/javascript/css, there is Aptana which is free - it helps you with your tagging and coding. For php you can get eclipse.
