FYI: The window with the black background is called the %26quot;command line.%26quot; PING is one of the basic networking tools very commonly used by network admins. One other command that works is TRACERT. This is the function being used at the metacafe.com site. However, you can simply type TRACERT WWW.YAHOO.COM in place of Step 5 above to obtain the IP also, but there will be more information shown - specifically, the router hops that are taken from your computer to the website you specified in the TRACERT command.
